Many people have asked me, “Who is Basil the Donkey?”

I suppose it might seem a bit odd when you first visit the site…maybe you think it’s a site about donkeys, perhaps some strange fetish thing.

It’s not, trust me. Donkeys are fine and all, but not really my cup of tea. (And if you want to know what the site is about click here.)

Basil the Donkey’s “existence” came out of a joke I had on another site of mine — the IGotNewsForYou blog, where I made reference to a donkey I had working on the IGotNewsForYou project.

Shortly thereafter, I got hooked on open mic night at Successful Blog where I met with a cast of crazy characters. Suddenly everyone was talking about the donkey, and we named him Basil. I told people he wrote code for me, and the silliness just went on from there.

When this project came to life, it was a natural fit to tie Basil the Donkey with Basil Fawlty of Fawlty Towers. And that’s how it all came to pass.

Does it make more sense now? *smile*
