Make Where Is Basil Your Own. That’s Part of Being A Community.

Starbucker has sent Basil packing to Chicago and sent the DVDs as well. In his final comments on the experience, Starbucker wrote:

I’ve included with the DVDs another picture, a postcard and a note that I hope will be passed on as the DVDs travel around the world.

I also reveal my favorite episode of Fawlty Towers, but you’ll have to get on the list to find out!

When you get on the list and join this adventure you’re asked to ship a postcard and perhaps a tourist-related trinket from your hometown with the DVDs to the next person on the list. But, Starbucker did things a bit differently and put his own spin on this grand project.

He’s added a note into his shipment of the DVDs that he hopes will get passed around the world to each person on the list, where he’s revealed his favorite episode of Fawlty Towers and…well, who knows what else he wrote in that note…I don’t know…but each person that’s on the list from Starbucker onward will!

Starbucker’s added his own little bit to the project and the community and I think that’s wonderful! Especially since Starbucker was the first person to receive the DVDs and kickstart this entire affair.

I’d invite each of you who is on the list to do the same…add your own little something to the project, be it an extra note you want passed around the world, a special post on this blog, or something else you might come up with. The sky’s the limit…so long as people don’t have to start shipping a huge crate each time they pass on the DVDs!

Truthfully, I don’t know where this will take us. Some might call what’s happening “co-creation”, which is when you create products/services with your clients/users. It’s not “for” them as much as it’s “with” them. Where Is Basil? doesn’t have clients, but co-creation is very much about working with your community and those that support you; and this project is all about community.

For more information on co-creation, I’d recommend you do a search for the term. I found the Co-Creation Blog fairly quickly, for example, and it looks like a great place to start.
