Basil will make a fairly short trip from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to Vermont when it’s time for him to move on from Canada’s capital and his visit with Bob LeDrew. Maybe Basil will rent another limo.
Susan Reynolds is an artist and new media consultant. She runs a blog, which is beautifully and hysterically titled: Case-Notes from the Artsy Asylum. Doesn’t that sound like a lovely place? I bet Basil will fit right in.
Susan also brought my attention to her own “traveling project” called Flat Susan (which is the inspiration behind the image above.) It’s a bit hard to explain, but essentially it’s a take off of Flat Stanley books. You get a paper cutout (available at the Flat Susan project URL) and put your own face on it. Then you get the book of cutouts by other artists, put yours in it and pass it along. In many ways it’s similar to what we’re doing here, and it looks like great fun! Maybe Susan will do a Flat Basil?
Thanks for joining the list Susan, it’s appreciated and I look forward to hearing all about your adventures with Basil in Vermont!
PS. Basil loves ice cream (and he’s partial to Ben & Jerry’s) so he should fit right in. As soon as he finds out he’s going to Vermont he’s going to want to visit their factory, trust me.

Since I design postage for an imaginary Empire, so Basil will feel right at home when he comes to visit here although I’m living in VA not VT. Other than that I’m pretty much in sync with Basil.
In fact, I got an email from him saying that he does need a flat version of himself because he so rarely seems to be able to make it to the photo shoots his hosts plan while he’s visiting. Apparently chatting with ladies passing by tends to get higher priority - so he’d like flat Basil to be a stand-in.
Basil rather liked the photo of Clint Eastwood with Flat Stanley on the red carpet and when he say that flat folks even got into the Oval Office this seems to have made becoming flat a priority. Getting garbed ala Flat Susan has some appeal to him too but I’m not sure I’m up for doing the fittings involved.
In any case, Basil claims that “someone” will email me his photo so I can get right to work making him flat. He Does like to foist these things off on others doesn’t he? But _this_ should be an adventure worthy of stop by step coverage.
Oops. VA, VT…you can understand how a Canadian donkey might confuse the too.
I’m going to make sure we get a new introductory post online about Sterling, Virginia so people don’t think you live in Vermont and get totally confused. Plus, Basil would surely get lost.
I can’t wait to see Flat Basil! Thanks for being a part of this Susan…
