When I sent Basil on this journey, I didn’t realize just how much partying he was planning to do. In only a few weeks time, Basil’s managed to:

• Party in Boston with Starbucker. And get totally lost there too.
• Meet Dick Cheney on a train ride from Stamford, Connecticut to Chicago, Illinois, where he almost caused an international incident chomping on the hat of a Swedish lady.
• Paint Rush Street in Chicago red and crash a party with Liz Strauss at the Chicago Metropolitain Museum of Art.
• And get arrested in San Jose with some feminist bloggers.

The donkey’s been busy. And that’s definitely good, we all need to blow off some steam right?

But the point of Basil’s adventure wasn’t just an excuse to get out from my watchful eye, take a break from programming for IGotNewsForYou and party. I also wanted him to tell us what the world is like; to explore it through the eyes of a donkey and give us some insight into all the amazing places that exist.

Basil’s interested in those things too. He comes from a small, fenced-in field after all, and the world’s a mighty big place for a donkey.

Before Basil flew out of Chicago I had a wee chat with him to remind him that if he spends more time dancing on tables and getting thrown in jail than he does touring, a lot of people will miss out on the real story behind all the places he’s going. Luckily I caught him before he’d spiked his coffee with Baileys and he agreed with me.

I’m not trying to take the fun out of Basil’s adventure, just the opposite, I want him lucid enough (at least from time to time) to really tell us what the world looks like.
