Wendy Piersall is a stay-at-home mom / entrepreneur extraordinaire. And she’s on the list. (Incidentally, that’s not some uber-secretive club…everyone can sign-up!)
Anyway, Wendy blogtipped me with a ferociously wonderful post about Where Is Basil and my latest blog Instigator Blog.
If you’re not familiar with blogtipping, it’s simple. On the first day of each month you find 3 blogs you like. Write 3 positive things about each one and provide each one with a tip.
Wendy’s tip, in a nutshell, is that I need to clearly explain this project in 1 sentence. I agree with her 100%. At the outset, this project might seem confusing. What is this all about anyway?
So, here we go — my 1 sentence attempt at explaining Where Is Basil.
“Where Is Basil is a fun, community-building project, whereby the hilarious Fawlty Towers DVDs are shipped around the world, to anyone that wants them, along with Basil the donkey.”
Or:
“Where Is Basil is a travel blog about Basil the donkey’s adventures around the world, as he delivers the hilarious Fawlty Towers DVDs to anyone who wants them.”
Hhhmm…I’m not convinced either really expresses succinctly and clearly enough what we’re all doing here. Anyone care to help?

Well, I have avoided commenting all day because I can’t come up with anything better…
Bad reason to not comment, I know!
I WILL actually think about this (in fact, already did!!), but promise to give your loquacious quandy it’s due contemplation
Sounds great. I tried to work in a phrase about how when you have the DVDs, you help post for a week, so everyone shares posting duties … but it’s hard to fit that in one sentence. How about two sentences?
How about something like:
Where is Basil is the home of Basil the donkey’s community of friends where we hear and describe his adventures and sight-seeing as he delivers the hilarious Fawlty Towers DVDs to anyone who wants to accept him into their home on his rambunctious tour of the world.
Wendy - I figured you were thinking about it! You couldn’t tip me to write a 1 sentence and description and think I wouldn’t beg for help right?
Easton - Wendy made the rules, so you’d have to ask her! I already begged for 2 sentences…she’s tough.
Rick - I think you’re onto something…anyone care to help out, refine, elaborate?
[...] The security staff questioned him about what he was doing. Of course Basil tried to explain it, and to him it seemed completely obvious. “I’m going to Australia to visit Leah Maclean cause she wants to hang out and watch Fawlty Towers.” (Wendy — I think if we had a more definitive 1 sentence explanation for this whole thing Basil might have faired better!) [...]
[...] Perhaps most importantly, I’ve put a 2-sentence explanation of the site at the very top. I tried getting it into 1-sentence, since that’s what Wendy Piersall blogtipped me to do, but I haven’t figured that out yet. For the moment, I think the explanation is pretty good, pretty interesting and it still encourages you to read more! [...]
