Basil Nabs Some Photos of Montreal

First let me say this…there was a minor family emergency yesterday. Everyone is OK but Basil and I cancelled our plans to go to Reservoir and have some drinks. We were supposed to meet someone there; I’ve cancelled twice. Hopefully it happens next week!

Again, it wasn’t serious, so on with the show…and I hope Basil and I have a chance to show you some hotspots soon.

One thing Basil likes to do when I’m driving is snap pictures from the car. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to take pictures while driving which I’ve tried to explain to him on several occasions.

Anyway, on our way to work yesterday, and on our way home, Basil nabbed some shots. Nothing spectacular but it’ll give you a small taste of what my world looks like.

You can check out all the photos on Flickr where I’ve uploaded them. Sadly, I haven’t found a great plugin for displaying certain pictures in thumbnail format from Flickr on a blog yet (anyone?)

I wanted to highlight some of the more interesting pictures…

That’s the price of gas from yesterday per litre. It’s gone down a lot in the last 3 weeks, it was up around $1.20 at some points.

1 litre = 0.2642 US gallons -> That’s for anyone who wants to convert it and see if we pay more in Canada for gas!

That’s a picture of my office building. It’s not a great one but Basil couldn’t get a better angle…just to the left of where we were standing they were filming a TV show or movie of some kind and they were blocking the whole street. Basil tried to get on as an extra; evidently it wasn’t a show about donkeys.

This picture shows us coming towards a roundabout near my house. Roundabouts are quite common in Europe (at least as far as I remember from times when I travelled myself *sniff sniff*) but they’re fairly uncommon in Canada. Near my place they took out two 4-way intersections with stop signs and replaced them with roundabouts. I thought, given the way Montreal drivers drive, that it’d be a disaster. I’ve seen a few fender benders but nothing serious.

So Basil’s first day was fairly uneventful. He managed to do some work, but we spent most of the day chatting about his various adventures with all the people he’s met so far and all the places he’s been. I think after a few days more in Montreal he’ll be itching to race off again and head to Nova Scotia to meet up with Derek Andrews and continue the adventure from there.
