Where Is Basil Upgrades WordPress Theme. You Like?

When I launched Where Is Basil back in July, Basil never really liked the theme.

“It’s not flexible enough,” he told me. “It’s going to be too cumbersome to update,” he said. Fair enough, the donkey was right.

The original theme was Travelogue 0.1. This is an updated version, Travelogue 2.0. It’s not perfect, and I’m really not sure how many more updates we’ll see from the developers, but for now I think it’s quite a bit better.

It’s a lot easier to update the polaroid picture at the top (and include random pictures there if I want).

I’ve tweaked the fonts, and it’s got an interesting 3rd column on the right-hand side where I’ve got the feed icon and Google Ads.

I also categorized every post by location (and a few other more general categories.) So if you want to read about Basil’s adventures in Savannah, Georgia, it’s a heck of a lot easier!

I like the way the archive works, in the pulldown and the format is nice and neat.

Perhaps most importantly, I’ve put a 2-sentence explanation of the site at the very top. I tried getting it into 1-sentence, since that’s what Wendy Piersall blogtipped me to do, but I haven’t figured that out yet. For the moment, I think the explanation is pretty good, pretty interesting and it still encourages you to read more!

Does the blurb at the top work? Does it explain the site enough and interest you enough to check it out?

What do people think of the new theme?

Me likey! I think it’s simpler and more eye-pleasing. Maybe I’m biased because I’ve already participated - loved every minute - but I do think you’ve made good strides here, Ben.

Easton - thanks! I appreciate it.

I like it too. Not perfect but it’s better and a touch more flexible.

I’d still like to do so much in terms of content generation - put all the images in an album, provide links/resources to all the places he’s gone, etc. But that’ll have to come in time…

    Hey Ben,

Looking Good… (I see Both Basils are back)
I do like the new theme and all of the little touches you have added. The Blurb works well to explain to new comers what it’s about.

Small suggestion, you may want to put a “break” after the last location and before your T-Rati link. ;-)
