Basil Detoured to New Hope Pennsylvania

I don’t know how he missed Philadelphia, but he did. He just kept on going and going up the Delaware River.

When I heard from the police from New Hope, my heart dropped. They assured me that Basil was fine, but very lost.

As it turns out, he heard somewhere about Washington’s Crossing and wanted to participate in the yearly celebration. The officer had tried to explain that Basil was a little early, as the re-enactment is on Christmas Eve. Since that was when the crossing actually happened during the Revolutionary War, they only do it once a year.

In explaining how he ended up in New Hope instead of Washington’s Crossing, Basil said he couldn’t figure out how to get past the waterfall in the river. Never mind that he was already 5 miles north of the park near Lambertville, NJ. So, he backtracked until he saw some signs of life. Hence, New Hope.

Some very nice people who run a Bed and Breakfast in New Hope have offered to put Basil up for the night gratis (hear that Ben?) after hearing his story of sailing all the way from River John Nova Scotia. How nice is that?

I am supposed to meet up with Basil in the morning for Breakfast at the Inn. I hope he doesn’t try anything silly like trying to find where the Battle of Trenton was fought…

I promised to stop by Valley Forge on the way home, but he had to promise to behave and not cause any trouble with the young ladies that own the B&B.

Please tell the folks at that B&B that I appreciate it…

[...] Joe Hauckes (http://www.workingathomeinternet.com/WP), Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, USA - Basil’s there now! [...]

Joe, Don’t let Basil sucker you about how broke he is. He’s got Ben’s Visa card! I hear Ben’s still good for it.

Oh, and just a word of advice… You might not want to let Basil get too near any place that sells waffles. I’m just saying.

  4. Joe Says:

    Ben,
    I already did.

    Chris,
I wish you would have told me before Breakfast at the Inn this morning. :-0 I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow.

BTW Ben, I hope that CC is still good, it’s going to cost a pretty penny to send Basil to Belarus…

  5. Ben Says:

Well if he ate waffles I’m glad I’m not there…

The CC is still good. The bank has called countless times with things like, “Sir, we see a transaction here for $5,000 for a bottlecap art piece, as well as $2,500 for the biggest piece of Canadian beaver poo…can you confirm these transactions?”

The bank is getting used to it. And yes, Belarus will be expensive. Thank goodness Basil’s drawing in so many sponsorship dollars…um…

  6. Chris Cree Says:

I’m glad it was Canadian beaver poo. You might have gone over limit if it had originated from South of the border!

  7. Ben Says:

    Chris…don’t give Basil any ideas.

We know he loves art, and he’s addicted to collecting things…one can only imagine if he gets something crazy in his head what will happen.
